Alexandra Shapiro Interviewed on Shapiro Arato Efforts to Change The Presidential Debate Rules to Allow an Independent Candidate to Participate

In a recent article, the Orlando Sentinel featured the efforts of Shapiro Arato LLP and its client, Level the Playing Field, to ensure fair access to the 2016 Presidential Debates. (LPF is a non-profit, non-partisan corporation that seeks to enhance and strengthen our democracy by creating an opportunity for more competition in our political system). Partner Alexandra Shapiro discussed the current high level of public support for independent candidates and how the rules set by the Commission on Presidential Debates exclude candidates other than the Democratic and Republican nominees. Change the Rule, a public advocacy project backed by Level the Playing Field and a prominent group of Americans, publicly launched its campaign to reform the rules governing access to the presidential debates in March.
